However, many times strong folks emerge and use their tragedy as a badge of courage and go out to change the lives of others for the better.
Until I started investigating causes for women’s hair loss I never gave much thought to the physical ways in which hair stops growing. As we age, women in general do not go bald in patches, but rather thin in an overall pattern on the head. Of course there are exceptions. So, the most common physical way to need a thinning hair treatment is due to our hair follicles shutting down slowly over time producing a smaller or more miniature hair than it did. We can start to combat this process as soon as it is noticed, and by using a natural hair loss treatment such as a Low Level Light Therapy laser these follicles can be re-energized and brought back to healthy “younger” follicles that produce thicker, shinier hairs.

Another reason that hair stops growing is due to trauma. Certainly disfiguring accidents can take away the layer of hair producing follicles in spots or even large sections. If traumatized badly enough or if removed altogether, then the only way to hide this problem would be by covering it up with a wig, hairpiece, scarf or hat or sometimes surgeries can be done to transplant skin with hair follicles in it to cover the area. With these as well as ANY hair transplant surgery (usually reserved for men as they bald in patches and hair is taken from a thick spot and put in a spot where there is none), the new laser hair brush is often used to jump start the hair growing phase of the follicles transplanted. This eases the shock of the transplanted hair follicle.

Certain mental diseases whether severe or even considered a tic or oddity can cause the person with the disease to physically pull on or even pull out their hair in spots or patches. Nervousness often causes some people to twist their hair incessantly, causing breakage but often eventually uprooting the hair on certain parts of their head. As long as this type of trauma exists, the hair follicles will never be able to keep up with growth, however as soon as the behavior is stopped or modified growth can begin again. Sometimes, however the actual follicle has been so traumatized that it will never produce another hair. Laser hair therapy can at least give these damaged follicles a change to produce or can help the surrounding follicles “fill in” hair as they produce hair that is thicker therefore giving a fuller effect.

On the much lighter side of hair breakage and loss are the actions that we may be doing every day to cause our hair to need laser hair restoration. With so many running, spinning, Zumba-ing folks out there, we women are putting our hair back in tight elastic bands. Now, with exercise being good for us and even good for our hair growth, we need to take care not to damage what we already have this way! Swimming in the ocean is one thing, but even salty hair in the sun dries out quicker than with plain shower water and chlorine pool creates havoc on our hair color as well as its quality. Of course to blow dry our hair we cause damage by using too much heat and brushing through tangles while hair is wet. Color treating hair? Even with the latest and safest dyes there is still damage done. Once you are into straightening, having chemical blow outs or permanent curls we are talking serious damage. All of the wonderful shampoos and conditioners in the world cannot undo this type of damage. The oils, masks and treatments we add on can also physically block the pores on the scalp and cause an already shrinking follicle to close off and stop producing hair altogether.

Most women do not even consider thinning hair or hair loss until it happens to them! This could happen at age 25 or it could wait until your 70’s…but a certain amount of hair loss in women WILL HAPPEN. In this set of articles, I would like to approach each of the potential causes of women’s hair loss and give possible hints as to what we can do to correct, reverse or deal with each.

Sorry, men…I will get to you soon! In the meantime, men can read these articles so that you may better understand the plight of the women in your lives, and garner a little more insight into what may be on the minds of your spouse, sister, mom, co-worker, girlfriend or even your daughter.

Hopefully the following information will shed some light on not only possible causes, but possible solutions as well. Let’s get started with an overview of how ANY of the above causes of hair loss in women can happen.

How does hair grow and what causes it to stop?

Hair is formed in follicles which are the “bulbs” located below the upper layer of skin or scalp. They contain the root of the growing hair shaft and are fed by elements in our blood. Proper nourishment will ensure a strong, healthy hair to grow through four phases.

There is the 3-6 year growth phase when hair grows approximately 6 inches a year. There is a 1-2 week transition phase, a 5-6 week resting phase which is when a new hair is forming, and a return to growth phase which is when the new hair grows and pushes out the old hair shaft. This can be compared to the growth of our teeth. We get baby teeth, then, after a while new tooth buds form and they come up and push out the baby teeth and become our permanent teeth. The difference is that this hair cycle can continue over and over again throughout our lifetime.

Poor blood circulation in the scalp to the root of the hair causes less “food” to be delivered to feed the follicle via cells. Unfortunately, some trauma (physical injury) cannot be avoided, but that caused by poor habits can be avoided. This stopping or slowing and “miniaturization” of the follicles is what we see as thinning, hair loss and balding.

I am 39 years old and my hair has gone from beautiful, thick hair to hair that is thinning and making me feel so self conscious. I am a busy Mom, wife and an office worker and I don’t have lots of hours to spend at a salon or testing and messing with hair products that promise you the world and deliver nothing. I am looking for a female hair loss treatment that is safe, easy, and fast.

This is becoming a more and more common comment I hear from my friends (actually of all ages) at parties, meetings and kid’s play dates.
Since either the option was out of the question (drugs, surgery) or had been tried by some friends already (all the rest) I decided to investigate the only one which no one knew much about…laser hair therapy.

It seems that the laser hair brush or comb is actually a technology that has been around for at least 20 years. However, up until lately, treatment involved going to a dermatologist or a licensed salon or hair studio for treatments that lasted for up to an hour and needed to be taken at least 2-3 times per week. Now, this laser treatment can be done at home, saving travel time, energy and gas. This easy-to-use hair care device takes only a 15-30 minute treatment at home every other day.

I just gradually move my head every few minutes to make sure that the lasers have reached every area that is thinning. My new in-home treatment is restoring my worn-out, tired hair follicles to healthy ones that are producing fuller, healthier hair shafts. It is nourishing my thinning hair and promoting existing hair growth from within the follicle.
